Side Walk Chalk Art Festival - Mid September
On September 15th the sun was shining, music was in the air, and there were puppets, balloons, magic and more than 430 colorful masterpieces drawn on the sidewalks. All of this turned downtown Forest Grove into an enchanting place to be for the 22nd Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival. 
Our talented Featured Artists were Kat Moss, Jean Ramirez, Steve Sill and Doug Anderson. Special thanks to Fran Richards, whose rendition of the Chalk Art festival will adorn one of our public buildings in the near future.
Kudos to my co-chairs, Phillip Thias and Skip Buhler, for the time and energy they contributed to the success of the event and thanks to Dana Zurcher, Lynne Magner, Pat and Pete Truax, Jeanne Levy, Jerry Hoerber, Bev Camp, Marcia Alajoki, Cheryl Smith, Carolyn Dau,
Carol Dean and Maira Vega who manned the registration tent and gallery. Hats off to the many volunteers from Forest Grove High School, Valley Art Association, friends, family and the countless community artists who all contributed to making Forest Grove a very special town to visit and live in.

Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival
Valley Art events, March, April, May 2013:
March 23, “Spring Yarn Tasting,” 1-3 p.m., Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. See the newest colors and patterns for spring. Bring in your current knitting or crochet project for “troubleshooting.” Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
April 3 – Wednesday’s Focus on Art, 5-7 p.m., Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. Get your “Art Coupon” envelope beforehand at the gallery and bring it in unopened on April 3 to see if you’re a winner. Visit the gallery, view the art and mix and mingle with friends and neighbors.
April 13 – Watercolor “Make ‘n’ Take” at Valley Art Gallery, 1-3 p.m. No charge for creating your own small original piece of artwork. Learn how to control paper, water, brush and paint. The gallery is at 2022 Main St., in Forest Grove.
April 20 – This Saturday try brush calligraphy – “painted words” – 1-3 p.m., at Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. It’s just for fun at no charge. Learn how to control the brush and ink simply for your own amusement or for a special home decorating piece.
May 1 – First Wednesday, 5-8 p.m., 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. Taste some wine, “taste” some art, enjoy a visit with friends at the gallery. No admission charge. Valley Art is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
May 4 – For Kids: “Make a Special Gift for Mom,” at Valley Art Gallery, 1-3 p.m., 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. Supplies are limited and workshop space is limited to 25 children. Call Jeanne at 503-341-9701 for more information.
May 11 – Watch artists at work at Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove, from 1-3 p.m. Helpful hints and insight into the process of woodcarving, oil painting and pastels. No admission charge; just lots of fun. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and admission is free.
May 18 – Make ‘n’ Take a pair of beaded earrings or a pin at Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove. No charge for this short workshop; participants are limited to 25 from 1-3 p.m. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and admission is free.
May 25 – Learn about cold wax encaustic painting at Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St., Forest Grove, from 1-3 p.m. We will learn the basics and watch as the process unveils its own mysterious magic. Supplies will be on hand so you can work with a little of the product and get a feel for it. Call Jeanne at 503-341-9701 for more.
