Gordon Campbel

His mosaic art differs from most others as he uses vinyl and linoleum as a medium. Most pieces consist of recycled materials. It is made up of discontinued samples or off-cuts. The wood backing is cut from used shipping crated and discarded furniture. Much of the mosaic material is left over from floor remodeling projects. It has all become art rather than landfill.
Using the discontinued linoleum and vinyl pieces presents challenges not faced by most artists. The range of the color pallet is limited for creating each image. Quite a bit of the material offers some rather odd and even bizarre color combinations. This of course makes the whole process more creative and exciting.
The theme for this show is vintage vehicles, some depicted in Art Deco style travel posters. Being a recovering car collector, this art form satisfies his love of vehicles by creating mosaic images of them. Needless to say, this allows him a great deal of latitude as the mosaics take up less garage space and require a lot less gas.
