My name is Diane Dow, and I lived in Hillsboro, Oregon, for almost 35 wonderful years. My family and I moved there from upstate New York in 1984 when my husband was transferred to a new job location. I immediately got a job with the Hillsboro School District where I taught elementary school until 2016 when I retired after 41 total years of teaching! While in Oregon I taught beading classes at Planet Bead for several years and also did some beading projects with my students – which they loved! In 2003 I brought some of my creations to Valley Art, and I was very pleased to be invited to display them in the lovely Valley Art Gallery! I met many lovely folks there! We moved to Florida following my retirement in order to be closer to my son and family. During Covid I had the opportunity to work online doing enrichment activities with students in Oregon while I was in Florida. It was great to be able to keep up with teaching during that challenging time!
I continue my love of jewelry making and other crafts such as crocheting and sewing, and I enjoy sharing these hobbies with others. I have been making and donating earrings to the local library to sell during their holiday book/gift sales, and this spring I will be teaching my first of several beading classes at that same library. I also belong to a needlework group where we meet to crochet blankets which we donate to hospitals for their patients. In addition I continue to send some jewelry back to Oregon (which I still miss!) It’s fun to have so many wonderful things to do to keep busy!
